The village of Omodos has become popular due to the location of a special attraction – the monastery of the Holy Cross. The building was built at the beginning of the fourth century by the Holy Queen Helena – this is the empress of Byzantium.
After the destruction of the building, it was reconstructed and restored to be visited by tourists. Now the Church of the Holy Cross Cyprus has become a working parish shrine.
The building was painted by talented artists from the Russian Empire. The last works of the monastery were made by the hand of the Greek icon painter Othon Yapopoulos. In the gallery you can see fascinating works that are now considered ancient values of the island state.
You can find out these and many other interesting facts after an independent visit to Omodos Monastery. If you wish, you can visit the surroundings for free. And if you want to learn historical facts, then be sure to look into the shrine with a guided tour.
